I remember my first time. I was a debutante at the ball of KDP Select free days. After the two day free promotion on Amazon drew to a close, the clock struck midnight and the revelry started to fade. There are just too many glass slippers left on the steep ladder to success.
It’s back. I am getting dressed for the ball again. I am no longer that wide-eyed ingenue. I have learned that marketing a book is not a delightful waltz. It is more like a battle cry and I have to don my armour beneath these layers.
The towering castle of fame glows in the distance, sparkling with promise but I know many have tried to scale its heights and fallen into the moat of anonymity below.
The keepers of the Amazonian gate stand awaiting. Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Goodreads, Medium and so on forth. It’s an army of fairy godmothers. Which one of them has the magic wand that helps capture the hearts of the readers ?

I can hear the music playing in the distance, as millions of books sway and move to the rhythm of readership. I know I should head there. The Prince of Popularity will be selecting his bride. Hoping for some sort of happy ending, I put on my cracked glass slippers and limp my way towards the bright lights.
